Every November, our school partners with the Movember organization (http://movember.org) for our Movember at McKinley fundraiser. Movember is a global non-profit whose goal is to fundraise for men’s cancers and health initiatives. Their motto is “Changing the face of men’s health.” This organization replaces the usual ribbons used to promote awareness with mustaches. Those who can grow them are asked to do so and those who can’t are asked to support whoever they can to fundraise and promote awareness. We will also be awarding prizes for the classes that raise the most money. November 25th is Movember at McKinley Day. Every student and teacher that donates money will receive a fake mustache to wear for the day. Donations can be made to Ms. Cooper.
Also in November we began our annual food drive to benefit local food pantries. Our food drive began on November 2nd and will run through March with pick up dates scheduled monthly. We are collecting only non-perishable food items and nothing in glass containers to help our local food pantry to be able to help those who are less fortunate in our community. Contributions can be left in room 136.
In December, the I Love Me Campaign & The Leadership Club will collect new or gently used toys so that children in need may have a happy holiday season. We accept toys and gifts for all ages but ask that families please do not donate stuffed animals.
In January, we begin our Penny Harvest. Each homeroom will have a donation box for our collection of coins. At the end of the month, we will tally each homeroom’s total and prizes will be awarded to the classes that raise the most money.
