McKinley Chess Team Competition

The McKinley Lions chess team had a fun and successful day at the 2015 CIS Project Chess City Council Cup on Saturday, May 16th at P.S. 503.  The chess team represented McKinley extremely well fielding 30 competitors and placing 2 teams within the top 5 in both the Rated –and– Unrated JH-HS (6-8) sections.  

Winnie Wu (Class 603) led McKinley’s Rated team to 4th place out of 17 JH-HS teams in the Rated JH – HS Open.  Wu placed 6th overall earning a medal for 3 impressive victories while pacing the Rated team comprised of Tommy Farrell (604 - 2 wins), Sebastian Stec (704 – 2 wins), and Andy Lin (605 - 1 Win).  Owen Ochoa (717) also earned a win for the Rated team.

Brian Too (Class 701) led McKinley’s Unrated squad to 5th place out of 16 JH teams in the JH Unrated section.  Too placed 10th earning a medal for 3 victories while pacing the Unrated team consisting of medalist Arber Krashi (701- 2 wins, draw), Rachel Teng (701 – 2 wins), and William Lin (701 – 2 wins).
